I have just purchased the Sonrisa’s curriculum, and am very excited about incorporating it into my lesson plans for next year. I teach preschool- 4th grade, and am a “traveling teacher.” My challenge, and I know I’m not alone, is a lack of time with my students. I only have 15 minutes 2x per week for pre-K through K, and only 30 minutes, 2x per week with grades 1-4. I’d love to hear about how other teachers have adapted the Sonrisa’s curriculum to shorter classes.

      Laura,
What I would do with your short classes is teach one lesson over the course of 3 or even 4 classes. For example: you might do circle time and story the first day, circle time and start the art project second day, circle time and repeat the story third day, and circle time and finish the art project the fourth day. Or, you could break up a three part lesson (circle, story, art) into three sessions, fifteen minutes of each. You might need to do a little circle time on the day you read the story as that will probably not last 15 minutes. The easiest way to make your lessons flexible is through your circle time and how you break up the art project. Once you build up a repetoir of songs for circle time, you can then make your circle time 5 minutes long or 20 minutes long. Likewise, you can start an art project one day, doing just part of it, then finish it another day. I hope this helps. Let me know.
